PHILADELPHIA — As embattled as their quarterback has been lately, both inside and outside the locker room, the Eagles aren’t going anywhere this postseason without Jalen Hurts. Hurts was on the injury report (left finger) and wearing tape on his hand Friday, though he was deemed a full participant in a walkthrough ahead of Sunday’s game at the Linc against the Pittsburgh Steelers (4:25 p.m., FOX, 94.1-WIP FM), when the Birds will try for their tenth consecutive win. The injury is to his non-throwing hand. Hurts is expected to play. Wide receiver/punt returner Britain Covey (neck), who has barely been on the field this year, has been ruled out. Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, who has lit up opponents on defense and done an excellent job fielding punts, will once again replace him on special teams. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson will be without top receiver George Pickens (hamstring). Safety DeShon Elliott, the team’s leading tackler, and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi are also out, both nursing hamstring injuries. Much of Hurts’ attention will be on Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt, one of many weapons on the Pittsburgh defense. “No. 90 (Watt) is outstanding,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “You can see how he plays and the ability he has to get to the quarterback, and retrace to the quarterback, and always have that ball on his mind. “My experience has been when you have a guy that’s a ball hawk like him, that goes throughout, and (safety) Minkah Fitzpatrick is, too, on the back end. Those guys get an opportunity to learn from him, so you can see (Steelers linebacker Nick) Herbig playing that way, (linebacker Alex) Highsmith playing that way. They do a really good job getting after the quarterback and having the ball on their mind when that happens. “So, we have to counter that, and we have different ways we’ll need to do that. We’ll have to play a good game because they’re good players. But I’ve got a lot of respect for Coach Tomlin and his staff and how consistent he’s been throughout his entire career. It’s very impressive. That doesn’t happen without good culture, good players, good coaches.” • • • By clinching a playoff berth last week, the Eagles are tied for the second-most playoff berths (17) since the 2000 season, behind New England (18). … The Birds’ nine-game winning streak matches their longest ever, in 2017, 2003 and 1960. … Rookie Quinyon Mitchell, the Eagles’ first-round pick out of Toledo, is the only cornerback in the league who has allowed zero touchdowns in 500-plus snaps this year.
