(FORT CARSON, Colo.) — The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) 4th Infantry Division marked their official return from a 9-month deployment in Europe with an Uncasing of the Colors Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 13 at the William Reed Special Events Center. The Uncasing of the Colors is a traditional ceremony held by the U.S. Army and signifies the return of units from forward operations. They will be replaced by the 1st Armored Division, from Fort Bliss, Texas. Because last Christmas, we were in the throes of getting ready to go to Europe," said Col. Brian Gilbert, Commander for the 3rd ABCT 4th Infantry Division. "And so really to be able to come home, you know, and relax and spend time with family and friends,... get on the slopes of Colorado. It's amazing for really all of our soldiers to be able to do that." While in Europe, the soldiers worked alongside NATO allies and partners to conduct bilateral and multinational training exercises.
