ODOT slated to rehab Chardon Road bridge in Willoughby Hills

The Ohio Department of Transportation is planning to rehab the Chardon Road bridge over the Chagrin River in Willoughby Hills in 2025.
The project is tentatively scheduled to start in March and last through October, according to City Engineer Pietro DiFranco. The bridge will be closed, but traffic will be detoured.
Steve Johnson, transportation director for the Willoughby-Eastlake School District, has been notified in order to start planning routing around the bridge next year, said Mayor Chris Hallum.
Meanwhile, the engineering group assisting the city with the grants for the multipurpose path and sidewalks plan for Route 91, as well as the Route 6 corridor area have been at work, Hallum said.
“The parks have been engaged as well,” he said. “They seem to be on board and have some grant money that we might be able to utilize for some of the things we want to do for this, so I’m encouraged by that.”
The city plans to meet with the engineering group and the parks going forward to continue to move the project along, Hallum said.
The west end sidewalks project is still in the planning stages, DiFranco said. The city is currently waiting for the agreement to be executed between the city and the county.
Hallum previously said there have been discussions in the past about the need for better ways to traverse the commercial districts in the city and that there is also an opportunity to install sidewalks on the east and in the main district of the city.
“We’re getting ready to distribute a letter to property owners, making them aware that the project is coming and asking for their permission to work on their property,” DiFranco said.
