The video (above) shows a man wearing a black hoodie and mask walking into the cafe and trying to take an item from a customer dining inside. Standing behind the counter, the employee immediately ran over to the thief and shoved a cart into his back.
The employee tackled the thief and pushed him against a counter. The video shows something spraying in the employee's face, which the cafe told KRON4 was bear mace brought in by the thief. The employee and customer were both sprayed with the mace.
The employee eventually swung the robber to the ground and placed him in a headlock. Other people witnessed the incident from outside the store and rushed in to help detain him.
San Francisco police confirmed the incident, saying both the suspect and victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The employee's face is still recovering from the mace, the cafe owner told KRON4.
The suspect was identified as Amir Moner, 42, of Concord. He was arrested for the altercation and active out-of-county warrants.
