BAKERFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A probation check turned foot pursuit lead to the arrest of a man who was involved in a vehicle pursuit in Sacramento earlier that day, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
On Dec. 11, KCSO's gang unit conducted a probation search at a home located at 2120 Scott Place in Bakersfield. Before the gang unit approached the house, deputies noticed a Kia Stringer near the residence.
A deputy recognized that the Kia was was involved in a pursuit with the Sacramento Police Department earlier that same day. SPD confirmed Timothy Ruiz, 23, was the driver involved in the pursuit, KCSO said.
Deputies, along with a K-9 unit and Air 1, tried to contact Ruiz in the front yard of the east Bakersfield home, but Ruiz fled through the backyard once he saw the police presence outside the home.
Air 1 directed officers on his whereabouts and observed Ruiz discarded a bag over the northwest fence of the property. He was arrested a short time later without incident.
Officials say they found a loaded .45 caliber firearm inside the bag. Ruiz was arrested for multiple gang and weapons charges and was booked into the Lerdo Jail.
