CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Medical University of South Carolina and Clemson University are exploring a partnership to enhance student and employee access to key health services. MUSC’s board of trustees voted Friday to approve the project funding phase and endorsed a letter of intent between the universities to develop a new state-of-the-art facility on Clemson’s main campus. The building will be designed to deliver clinical care for students and employees while also adding human performance research labs, advanced imaging, and other cutting-edge medical services. MUSC Health has been providing an easy-to-use virtual urgent care service for Clemson University and Bridge to Clemson students. Clemson’s current health facility, Redfern Health Center, was constructed in 1969 and the university’s main campus does not have an urgent care facility. “MUSC is excited to have the opportunity to partner with Clemson to continue to elevate and deliver outstanding healthcare for their students and employees. This project also creates the opportunity for new performance health collaborations,” said David J. Cole, M.D., FACS, president of MUSC. "MUSC and Clemson University have a shared mission – to elevate the lives of people across the state of South Carolina and beyond," said Clemson University President Jim Clements. "Through our longstanding partnership with MUSC as well as Prisma, Blue Ridge Orthopedics, and others, we are thrilled to take the next steps in expanding health care services on Clemson University's main campus. Together, we will continue to deliver the #1 student experience in the country, provide space for critical research, and positively impact the lives of people at Clemson and beyond." The universities will follow South Carolina’s approval process as the project moves forward. A timeline was not provided.
