Red Bull Heavy Metal snowboarding competition returning to St. Paul
Dec 11, 2024
The Red Bull Heavy Metal street snowboarding competition is returning to the State Capitol this winter after a successful competition last year that drew in 30 riders and hundreds of spectators.
It will be held on the State Capitol grounds from 2-5 p.m. Feb. 1, and watching the competition is free and open to everyone.
This year’s competition will have three zones filled with rails, gaps and other creative features that aim to showcase a wide variety of street snowboarding styles. For an additional take on the competition, the courses provide an extra challenge for the most experienced riders.
A full list of competitors will be announced soon, but among the riders confirmed so far include 2022 winner Benny Milam of Chisago City and 2023 winner Jaylen Hanson of Hastings.
Returning to the mix is the Last Chance Qualifier event being held at Buck Hill, which provides an opportunity for aspiring competitive snowboarders to secure a spot in the Feb. 1 competition. Those interested in participating should look for more information about how to register and the date of the qualifier in January at redbull.com/heavymetalstp.
Red Bull Heavy Metal was originally launched in the early 2000s and then revived in 2022 with a successful competition in Duluth. Since then, the competition has drawn in crowds in Detroit and at the Minnesota State Capitol.
