Senior guard Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) led the way with 19 points to go along with eight rebounds, seven assists and two blocks, as Rhode Island College won its third consecutive Little East contest with a 70-51 win over Southern Maine on Wednesday night at The Murray Center. THE BASICS Rhode Island College 70, Southern Maine 51 Rhode Island College (6-3, 3-0 LEC) Southern Maine (4-5, 0-2 LEC) HOW IT HAPPENED • Medbury led the way in the first half with 16 points. RIC went on a 16-2 run to close out the first quarter with a 24-9 advantage. • USM pulled within nine, 28-19, midway through the second quarter, but the hosts ended the stanza on a 7-1 run to lead by 15, 35-20, at halftime. • The Huskies got within eight in the third quarter, but RIC did not let the visitors get any closer as the Anchorwomen built a 17-point, 51-34, lead after 30 minutes. • RIC buried any chance of a USM comeback by ripping off eight straight points to open the fourth quarter and cruised to its third conference win of the season. The Anchorwomen did not trail at any point in the win. • Senior forward Angelina Nardolillo (Hinsdale, N.H.) finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. Freshman guard Naima Bleou (Worcester, Mass.) finished with nine points and five assists.
