Matthews Police arrest 7 people after illegal gambling investigation

MATTHEWS, N.C. – Matthews Police have arrested seven people after a months-long investigation into a business suspected of illegal gambling activities. Detectives submitted their findings to the Mecklenburg County Magistrate’s office, which issued 119 arrest warrants.
On September 3rd, 2024, Matthews Police executed a search warrant at Ocean King Arcade at 11032 E. Independence Boulevard based on the suspicion of illegal gambling taking place at the business. During the search, police say they seized gaming software and hard drives from 75 arcade machines, four guns and cash. The also charged four people with crimes ranging from unlicensed armed security, illegal gambling and an outstanding arrest warrant.
Matthews Police partnered with CMPD, Pineville PD, Mint Hill PD, Stallings PD, and the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Agency during this investigation.
