Special judge, clerk appointed for Letcher County sheriff murder trial

State Supreme Court Justice Laurence Van Meter has chosen a special judge and circuit court clerk for the murder trial of former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines.
The outgoing high court chief selected Judge Christopher Cohron, whose 8th Circuit includes Edmonson and Warren counties, to be special judge for the Stines trial. Van Meter chose Boyle County Circuit Court Clerk Cortney Shewmaker to serve as special clerk. Stines is accused of murdering Letcher County District Judge Kevin Mullins September 19th. A trial date and venue have not been announced.
