EL CAJON, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — El Cajon police are investigating a shooting involving an officer that occurred outside the police station near City Hall Wednesday afternoon, the department said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. The shooting occurred just before 12:45 p.m. in the parking lot of 100 Civic Center Way. It happened as officers were beginning to set up patrol vehicles for a retirement celebration for a longtime captain, El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells and police Lt. Keith MacArthur confirmed. According to MacArthur, El Cajon police opened fire after a truck — a 2000 Toyota four-door Tundra — ran into one of the officers and then tried to back up over another. Multiple rounds were fired by the two officers at the driver's side of the vehicle. Aerial video shows the truck came to a rest on a slight hill near the stairs leading up to the civic center. Turning skid marks can also be seen along the parking lot's sidewalk. Truck with bullet holes after police shooting outside El Cajon police station on Dec. 11, 2024.
