SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) — Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in a Swansea neighborhood late Wednesday morning. Crews were called to the two-story home on Brentwood Court around 10:45 a.m., according to Swansea Fire Chief Eric Hajder. Hajder said they arrived to find flames coming from the rear of the house. The grease fire had spread into the walls and was burning through some of the ceiling members between the first and second floors and exiting out the back of the house. However, he said the fire was extinguished within about 12 minutes, preventing it from spreading to the attic. "The weather made it pretty dicey, stretching lines. It was pretty muddy for a little bit there, but no significant issues," he added. One person was home and made the 911 call, but she safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
