Indy DPW preps crews for snowfall, cold temps
Dec 11, 2024
INDIANAPOLIS — As winter weather approaches Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works announced how they are preparing roads for Wednesday's snowfall and decreased temperatures.
Snow showers inbound later today; some slick roads expected
According to an X post, Indy DPW will deploy more than 80 of its crew members to fight the snow, including pretreating the roads before rush hour traffic — when the bulk of the snow is expected to arrive.
This means that DPW crews will work 12-hour shifts, the post read.
"With frigid temps and wind chills as low as -10° tonight, our crews will be clearing and treating the road to help keep our streets safe for everyone," said Indy DPW.
The department then added that drivers should practice safe driving on the roads. They recommended driving slowly, giving crews space, preparing vehicles ahead of time by packing extra resources and simply staying warm amid the cold weather.
