Dozens of first responders show up for ‘swatting’ false alarm in Trenton
Dec 11, 2024
An emergency call to a Trenton dispatcher that alleged one male resident had shot his grandmother and little sister and was holed up inside a Hamilton Ave. with a gun and rifle turned out to be a swatting call.
The fake event attracted numerous Trenton police officers who swarmed the 200 block of Hamilton Ave. Wednesday just after 2 p.m. Police found one male resident inside 234 Hamilton Ave. but no shooting victims.

“No guns. No rifles. And nobody injured,” assured Capt. Lisette Rios, Trenton Police Department spokesperson. Rios said police responded to an anonymous call made just after 2 p.m.
Police officers secured the area. Others blocked off a part of South Clinton Ave. near Hamilton Ave., a portion of Pearl St., and Hudson St. Two Trenton Fire Department vehicles were also on scene. Residents stood on doorsteps and on corners, unaware that a bogus phone call had caused the uproar.
“Police made the decision to shield up at 2:41 p.m. then made entry. They searched the entire premises and basically found nothing, only the resident who appears to have nothing to do with the incident. It was just a hoax,” Rios said.
Swatting identifies as an incident that attracts a large number of police officers to a particular address, in many cases to embarrass both residents and police officers.
