(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A General Municipal Election will be held to elect each of the six district City Council positions in April, and packages will become available by the end of December.
Those interested in running for a council position may pick up candidate filing packages in the City Clerk's Office located at 30 South Nevada Avenue, Suite 101, between Dec. 31 and Jan. 21, when the candidate filing period ends.
"This year, the six city council district boundaries were all redrawn to accommodate the population growth across the city,” said City Clerk Sarah B. Johnson. “It is important for each potential candidate to verify they live in the district they choose to run in prior to filing to run.”
To be eligible to run, residents must:
Be a citizen of the United States.
Be 25 years of age or older on the date of the election.
Have resided in the City of Colorado Springs city boundary for one year immediately preceding the election date.
Must reside in the City Council District boundary for which your residential address is located and if elected must maintain a resident within the district boundary for the entire four-year term of office.
The City Clerk will conduct a candidate training on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the City Administration Building at 30 S. Nevada Ave, Room 102. The training will include general information, guidelines regarding candidate filing, and campaign finance law. The training will also be recorded and posted online.
The election will take place on April 1, 2025.
