This is how Fresno's Christmas Tree Lane homeowners prepare for visitors

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Christmas Tree Lane on Van Ness Boulevard in Fresno opened for its 104th season Tuesday.
Homeowners spend months preparing their displays, stringing hundreds of thousands of lights.
“This is the only - we're the longest line in the world. It's something that, you know, it's only Fresno,” homeowner Dean Alexander said.
Alexander starts transforming his property on Oct. 15 and says he completely skips Halloween and Thanksgiving each year.
He says it never gets old, though.
“We have people all over the world that come through the line and it's, you know, it's phenomenal… Kids are smiling. Parents are smiling. It's just fantastic,” Alexander said.
Before they can welcome the crowds, electricians spend months making sure everything works, battling the ultimate Christmas light nemesis: squirrels.
“They like to sharpen their teeth on our power line. So those are all our own power grids right there… We put up all the power lines, sound lines, decorate all the trees,” Shawn Caglia with Caglia Plumbing & Electric said.
He says the displays are not powered through PG&E. Calgia Plumbing & Electric supplies all of the generators.
The electricity is paid for through donations from the public.
While the electricians keep an eye on the squirrels and string lights, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office will keep an eye on the visitors.
“Be courteous of where you go when you park. Don't block somebody's driveway as you are in the area. Walking around. Be respectful of the property. Don't touch any of the decorations. Don't litter,” Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Botti said.
He adds that alcohol and drugs are not allowed at Christmas Tree Lane.
Visitors can enjoy the lights Dec. 3-25. Dec. 3 and 11 are the only walk nights.
