CENTENNIAL, Colo. (KDVR) — Dramatic video footage released by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Monday shows deputies rescuing two children after they were trapped in a backyard near their burning home on Sunday. The deputies arrived at the home in the 4800 block of South Gibraltar Lane around noon on Sunday. The fire was spreading quickly and children could be heard yelling in the back yard.  Man shot by Aurora police had violent history, facing 5 counts of attempted murder The deputies broke down a fence to rescue a 14-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother. Moments earlier, that 14-year-old girl had jumped out a back window and called 911. Neighbors told FOX31 they could hear their cries for help. "My daughter called me and I just jumped in that car and I heard the sirens and I couldn't believe that was our house," Renee Unruh said. Smoke could be seen for miles as firefighters said stored items both outside and inside the home posed challenges.  "It really made it difficult for the firefighters to get into the home and get around the home as well," South Metro Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Brian Willie said. ‘No one is above the law’: Gov. Polis responds to President Biden pardoning son At one point, firefighters had to pull back. First responders were just glad to learn no one else was inside the home. But the fire and smoke left little to salvage. "For us, it's all gone. But we do have each other. Those (items) are material things. And I'm very blessed that my kids are OK," Unruh said.  A dog and two cats died in the fire. Investigators say they still do not know what caused the blaze.
