Wichita City Council to consider water and sewer increases
Dec 03, 2024
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita City Council will decide on Tuesday whether to increase water and sewer service rates.
Water would increase by 6.75%, and sewer would increase by 4.75%. The city says that means the average monthly bill for most residential customers would increase by $3.21.
In addition to the rate increase, members will also discuss raising the late fee from 1.5% of the unpaid balance to 5%.

The city says the increases are needed to meet its revenue requirements for ongoing operations, maintenance, and the development of water and sewer utilities. Key projects impacting rate adjustments include the $569 million Wichita Water Works project and the $387 million Biological Nutrient Removal project.
If approved, the new rates will happen on Jan. 1, 2025.
