SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's a 24-hour global day of giving to benefit non-profits, so the MSPCA is hosting pop-up events across the state, including in Springfield. Yankee Home surprises Springfield resident with generous gift MSPCA will be giving out free meals, vaccines, and microchips on Tuesday in Dorchester, Lawrence, Lynn, Hyannis, and Springfield, which are areas that have historically lacked access to affordable veterinary care and support. The pop-up event in Springfield will be held from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event is the first time in its over 150-year history that the MSPCA-Angell is hosting multiple pop-up events at the same time in most of the communities that its Community Outreach teams serve. MSPCA-AngellMSPCA-AngellMSPCA-AngellMSPCA-Angell “Giving Tuesday is a time when nonprofits traditionally ask for help, but given the growing need we’re seeing in the community, we thought it made sense to change it up,” explained MSPCA-Angell Vice President of Animal Protection, Mike Keiley. “This year has been tough for a lot of people financially, and when people experience food insecurity, their pets do too.” The non-profit is also seeking food donations from anyone who can help. Food can be dropped off at any of its shelters in Boston, Salem, Methuen, and Centerville on Cape Cod. Food can also be ordered and sent directly to shelters by their wish lists, which can be found on their website. “Our Community Outreach teams focus on specific areas for a reason: We want to bring affordable care to those who have generally been denied it. Now, we have a very lofty goal—to distribute at least 50,000 pet meals in a single day for animals in need—and it’s going to require all hands on deck from across our organization to get it done,” Keiley added MSPCA expects around 50 staff members to participate in the clinic, as well as a dozen volunteers.
