BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Campbell family joined 17 News at Sunrise to share their journey into parenthood and receiving services at the Lauren Small Children's Center at Dignity Health Memorial hospital. Sharaea Williams Campbell was only 35 weeks pregnant when her life and pregnancy took a sudden turn. “About 2 a.m., I woke up and I was just like, ‘man I don’t feel good.’ Maybe I need to walk it off, throw up, go to the bathroom. That was contractions that I didn’t realize were contractions. As I was sitting on the toilet … he popped out, half-way with his sack. I was like, ‘Uh oh.'” Sharaea and her husband Parker, had to perform CPR an their premature son, Preston. The terrified parents rushed Preston to Memorial Hospitals NICU. The Campbell's shared their gratitude for the staff at Lauren Small Children's Center, who they consider a second family. Preston is just shy of celebrating his second birthday and is in full health. "I'm so thankful for them having the backgrounds that they have, cause I don't have that knowledge. I just know how to be a mom. They know how to do A, B, C, D all the way down to Z. I am just glad that we were able to have those people there for him," Sharaea said. Watch the full interview in the video player above.
