Stillwater Twinkle Party and tree lighting set for Saturday
Dec 02, 2024
A 46-foot Balsam fir tree arrived in downtown Stillwater on Monday afternoon — just in time for the annual Hometown for the Holidays’ Twinkle Party and tree lighting on Saturday.
The tree will be erected on a stand in Chestnut Street Plaza around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
This 46-foot Balsam fir from Silver Creek Tree Farm in Stillwater Township will be erected in the Chestnut Street Plaza in downtown Stillwater on Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, 2024. It will be lit at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, during a ceremony at the end of the city’s annual Twinkle Party, which starts at 4 p.m. (Courtesy of Jeff Hause)
Jeff and Missy Hause, who coordinate the acquisition of the city’s tree each year, purchased the tree at a discounted rate from Silver Creek Tree Farm in Stillwater Township and arranged for its transport to Lowell Park, Jeff Hause said.
“The city requested a small tree this year,” he said. “Last year we had a 51-foot tree. It was so big around and so tall that the city’s equipment couldn’t reach the top. They couldn’t decorate it the way they wanted. We’ll probably cut about six feet off of this one.”
Acquiring and transporting the tree is a group effort by a team of “all-star volunteers,” Hause said. The team includes Rob McCallie of McCallie’s Tree Service in Somerset, Wis., Darrell Wold Jr., of Big Sky Crane Co., in Somerset, and Steve St. Claire of Miller Excavating Inc.
This is the 11th year the Hauses, who live in Somerset, have found Stillwater’s holiday tree and organized its transport to the city. It’s ironic “because we actually have a fake tree at home,” he said.
The city’s Twinkle Party will start at 4 p.m. Saturday in North Lowell Park. Santa and Mrs. Claus are slated to arrive – by fire truck – around 5 p.m. The lighting of the tree will be at 5:30 p.m.
