The Native Holiday Market, hosted by several Indigenous organizations in the area, is returning to St. Paul from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. The event will feature a variety of Native-made products. The market will take place at Eagle and Condor Native Wellness Center, 790 Seventh St. E. It will focus on the creations of more than 20 Native artists, whose work ranges from herbal remedies to beadwork to artisan tea blends, according to Tara Perron, also known as Tanaǧidaŋ To Wiŋ. Perron added the market will have Native food and music, and guests are encouraged to converse with the artists. Perron is the owner of Blue Hummingbird Woman Indigenous Gift Shop, which sells handmade products by Native community members. The store experienced a lot of success after it opened in November of 2022, which led to Perron opening a second location within the Eagle and Condor Native Wellness Center, housed in the Indigenous Roots Cultural Center on East Seventh Street. After the second location opened, Perron went to the owners of the building and proposed the idea of hosting markets that feature Indigenous works. Initially, the markets were supposed to be quarterly and align with the solstices and equinoxes, but the winter-themed market shifted slightly to adapt to the artists. “The Holiday Market … was a Winter Solstice Market, and then it kind of transformed on its own because all the vendors were creating holiday gifts,” Perron said. The markets have been going strong for a year now, Perron said, and many of the vendors are eager to come back. She added that creating space for Indigenous artists to share their culture and work is important for the city and Minnesota. “I think it’s just inviting people in to get an authentic feel of who we are as a people,” Perron said. “It’s really important, especially to our community and our vendors, that they have a space that they can call their own and then they can share as well.” Related Articles Things to Do | Holiday arts and entertainment: 14 artisan markets to check out for locally made gifts this winter Things to Do | Holiday arts and entertainment: Add these arts and culture festivals to your family’s wintertime calendar Things to Do | The British Arrows Awards to return to the Walker Art Center for its 38th year Things to Do | How a viral, duct-taped banana came to be worth $1 million Things to Do | St. Paul: Irvine Park fountain to be restored this winter, former Ecolab statue newly installed at Western Sculpture Park
