SPRINGFIELD, Va. (DC News Now) -- One of the dogs hurt in a tragic plane crash that killed a pilot from Springfield had a successful surgery to repair his two broken legs earlier this week.
Whiskey, a 4-month-old Labrador mix, is on his way to recovery after breaking two of his legs in the crash. Pieper Veterinary - an animal hospital in Connecticut - shared details about his progress on Nov. 26.
"This little guy's story has definitely captured all of our hearts - to go through such a traumatic event and still want to wag his tail and give kisses is a testament to little Whiskey's amazing spirit," the hospital wrote in a post on Facebook.

Though it will take some time for the "miracle puppy" to fully heal, his surgery team said they remain optimistic.
Whisky and another dog were the only survivors of a plane crash, which was headed from Maryland to Albany, N.Y. on Sunday. The pilot, 49-year-old Seuk Kim, and a third dog unfortunately did not survive.
Kim was transporting the rescue dogs to an animal shelter on the flight. His loss has been devastating for his family and the animal rescue community, which applauded his efforts to save countless animals.
Leah Kim, 16, described her father as “gleaming” when he first started flying animals from high-kill shelters in the south to other shelters up north.
“We have hundreds of pictures of him kissing and loving every single animal he put on his plane,” she told DC News Now.
