The man was using a pole to put up the lights when it touched an electrical line above a utility post sending an electric shock to him, according to the Wellesley Police Department. When police arrived, they found the 22-year-old man in cardiac arrest.
Officers were able to use an AED and on the third attempt got his heart beating.
"The pole he was using was about 34 feet long and it came in either proximity or touched a primary line that was only a few feet from the tree and he got zapped from that," said Officer Tim Gover of the Wellesley Police Department.
The 22-year-old also suffered burn injuries and is now recovering in the hospital. Police are urging residents to be cautious of live power lines when hanging Christmas lights.
