ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Wednesday, lawmakers joined local healthcare providers to draw attention to the importance of telehealth services in the Finger Lakes. Senator Chuck Schumer was in Holley leading the push. Medicare's telehealth program, which expanded during the pandemic, is set to expire Dec. 31, something Schumer said will leave over 200,000 seniors in the Rochester-Finger Lakes region without affordable access to these services. "If you have something wrong with you, and you have to go all the way - travel 30 miles, take off a day of work, you're going to say 'well, heck with it.' But if you can make an easy appointment, and say 'ok, I just have to be on my computer at 2 p.m. on Thursday,' you do it, and that makes health care much better" Schumer said. It's a move that he said does have bipartisan support.
