The Brown men’s basketball (4-3) team picked up its third consecutive win with a 77-54 victory over Stony Brook (2-5) at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Wednesday afternoon. Brown wraps up November after beginning the season 0-2, the Bears have won four out of its last five contests and three in a row to move to 4-3 heading into December. “Good performance for us, there were some mistakes out there and stuff I’d like us to do better but I thought we cleaned it up with great defense and pressure,” Head Men’s Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin ’04 said. “They weren’t comfortable handling our pressure and we wanted to continue to make people uncomfortable. I thought our defense was terrific and to hold a really good shooting team to one one three-pointer was huge and we made 13 at the other end.” The Bears jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first 90 seconds of the contest, Aaron Cooley scored five of the seven points during the run. Leading 12-5 with 13:35 remaining in the first half, the Bears launched a 9-0 run to take a 23-5 advantage. The run was sparked by three-pointers from Kino Lilly Jr., Lyndel Erold, and Jeremiah Jenkins. Erold totaled five points during the run. The Bears led by as much as 21 in the first half and had 14 first half assists. As a team, Brown shot 17-31 from the floor (7-14 from three-point range). Aaron Cooley led Brown with 10 first half points on 4-5 shooting from the field (2-3 from three-point range) while Landon Lewis had eight first half points and six rebounds. Brown held Stony Brook to 0-4 shooting from three-point range in the first half as they took a 43-24 lead into halftime. The Seawolves opened the season half on a 6-0 run to cut the Brown lead to 43-30 with 18:31 remaining in the second half, two made free throws by Landon Lewis along with a steal and a dunk from AJ Lesburt Jr. stopped the Stony Brook run and pushed the Brown lead to 47-30. Lesburt Jr. poured in 11 points in the second half on 4-6 shooting from the floor (3-5 from three-point range) as he led all Bears. Aaron Cooley finished with a career-high 17 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor, Landon Lewis scored in double figures for the seventh time in as many games this season with 12 points. Lewis also grabbed eight rebounds. AJ Lesburt Jr. continues his hot start since returning from injury with his third consecutive double-digit scoring effort, he finished with 16 points on 6-10 shooting from the floor (4-8 from three-point range). As a team, Brown recorded double-digit assists for the sixth consecutive game and recorded over 20 assists for the second time in three games. Brown has had 20 or more assists in back-to-back games at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 when they travel to Burlington, Vt. to take on Vermont, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Patrick Gymnasium.
