ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Every shot in a basketball game matters, especially if it decides the game at the end. UNM women's basketball guard Lara Langermann experienced that firsthand Wednesday night. In a 62 all tie with UC Irvine, the Lobo sophomore scored her only points of the game on a three-point bucket as the final horn sounded. The 65-62 New Mexico victory ended UC Irvine's winning streak at four games. The hard-fought game had four lead changes, with the outcome in question all the way until the end. UNM transfer sophomore Destinee Hooks scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the win. UNM senior guard Viane Cumber also finished the game with a double-double as she scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Alyssa Hargrove was the only other Lobo to score in double figures with 10 points. Irvine was led by Deja Lee who scored a game-high 20 points. With the victory, New Mexico improved to 4-3. The Lobos will host North Texas on Dec. 1. UC Irvine is now 5-2 and will play at Denver University on Saturday.
