Expected poor holiday weather has travelers leaving early
Nov 27, 2024
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP)--According to Triple "A" nearly 80 million Americans are expected to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday.
More than 71 million people will be traveling by car and luckily the weather cooperated on what is typically one of the busiest travel days of the year. On the Mass Pike in Ludlow the traffic was moving along pretty smoothly Wednesday afternoon.
Weather Alert issued for Thanksgiving in western Massachusetts
"Yeah, I thought it was going to be raining but tomorrow it's supposed to rain all day," remarked Robert Hernick of Troy, New York. "It wasn't bad so far, Exit 9 was a real bad spot, coming from New York City."
10 years a go back in 2014 on the day before Thanksgiving, the weather did not cooperate. Heavy wet snow fell across western Massachusetts causing very slow going and accidents all across the area.
