BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Are you planning on going Black Friday shopping in the Baton Rouge area with your friends and family? Here are some safety tips that you should know ahead of time.
With Black Friday being the busiest shopping day of the year, Attorney General Liz Murrill encourages Louisiana residents to be mindful of possible scams.
According to a news release, some safety tips that residents can keep in mind include being aware of their surroundings when shopping, keeping receipts, planning the shopping trip ahead of time, not carrying cash and being patient with others over items.
“Scams are still possible while taking advantage of any sweet deals or low prices on Black Friday and during the holiday season. I encourage all consumers to be vigilant and do their research before purchasing an item. Louisianans can check my tips first, to help them safely prepare for the holiday shopping season,” said Murrill.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said residents should be aware of scams during the holiday season.
"As the holiday seasons draw near, we recommend that you remain vigilant against scams. Please be aware of your surroundings when walking to and from your vehicles. Refrain from leaving valuable items visible within your cars. Drive safely and exercise extreme caution during travel," BRPD said in a Facebook post.
