GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) -- The holidays are the time of year for giving, and volunteering your time to help others could be a great gift to your community. As part of Local 5's 2024 Season of Volunteering Special, Local 5 This Morning stopped by the New Community Shelter in Green Bay to learn about all of the volunteer opportunities available there. The community meal program is one of them. Students build bat condo for the Door County Parks Department "That program never ceases to amaze me, because we have never missed a meal," said Terri Refsguard, CEO of the New Community Shelter. "That program is supported by about 120 volunteer groups that come in, provide and serve the meals." But there are other ways you can still make a difference. "I always tell people, you know, if you're interested in volunteering, let's take a walk around, let me show you the place. And when you hit our library, you might think, I have a bazillion books at home. Do you take books? Yes, we do, you know," said Refsguard. "So once a person walks through, they get a better sense of, okay this is what I can do." For more details on the New Community Shelter and ways you can volunteer, click here.
