GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - -Curative Connections is a non-profit located on Western Avenue in Green Bay helping their clients achieve their goals for independence.
The idea of Yesteryears Village came into fruition this past April. The village provides settings like a diner, auto shop, gas station, barbershop and a townhouse. The program is aimed to help bring back some memories with familiar settings.
Director of donor engagement and marketing, Kari Moody, says that they are the only non-profit in the United States that offers this program.
“People come into this space, it feels like you're walking into the 1960s and it's not a theater set, this is a completely immersive experience.” Moody mentioned, “You are in the rooms, you are having lunch in the diner, all of those things.”
Moody also mentioned that the number of people struggling with dementia are staggeringly increasing.
“There are more than 5,000 people, aged 65 and older, in Brown County alone, who are living with memory loss. That number is expected to increase by 105% by 2040.” Moody said.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, there are more than 120,000 people in Wisconsin living with dementia. The number is expected to nearly double by 2040.
The feedback from loved ones and caretakers are suggesting this unique experience is benefiting their patients.
“Weve probably received more feedback from loved ones or care givers. And they love it. It feels good to have a great place to have your loved one hang out during the day and do all kinds of things.” Moody said.
The price to experience this care from the non-profit is six dollars an hour.
Ways to help support this cause and Curative Connections is by providing financial donations, volunteering and Mood says most importantly by spreading the word about Yesteryears Village.
