TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) will be conducting sweeping renovation work at one of its fire stations.
The TFD announced on Nov. 26 in a social media post that Station 9 will be undergoing major renovation work. This is the first time the station, built in 1961, has experienced this level of renovations.
"This project is part of our commitment to maintaining public safety infrastructure, ensuring the safety of our personnel, and making our fire stations more accessible."

The TFD said the remodeling efforts are expected to last between four and six months and will not have a large impact on the station's ability to provide emergency services to its part of the city. Station 9's firefighters will be taking up residence at Station 5 and Station 2 during the renovations.
People residing in Station 9's coverage area are not expected to be impacted by these renovations and should still receive quick responses from the station's fire crews. Station 9 is located at 2447 Southeast 29th Street.
