WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- This Thanksgiving, the District is set to host the 23rd annual SOME Trot for Hunger, and residents in the area can expect to see some road closures. The 5k race is the only Thanksgiving Day race in D.C. and aims to raise awareness of fighting hunger. Proceeds from the event will help thousands of D.C. neighbors, including families and the elderly, with food, housing, access to healthcare, employment training and substance use disorder treatment programs. The run will begin at Freedom Plaza and Pennsylvania Avenue at 8:30 a.m. As a result, several roads will see closures and parking restrictions, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The following streets will be listed as Emergency no Parking on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m.: Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street to 14th Street, NW 13th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW 3rd Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to D Street, SW Independence Avenue from 3rd Street to 7th Street, SW 4th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to D Street, SW D Street from 3rd Street to 4th Street, SW All vehicles who park in violation of the Emergency no Parking signs will be ticketed and towed. Metro releases Thanksgiving Day schedule affecting buses, trains The following streets will be closed to traffic on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.: Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street to 9th Street, NW 9th Street from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW D Street from 8th Street to 9th Street, NW 7th Street from Indiana Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW 6th Street from C Street to Constitution Avenue, NW Constitution Avenue from 3rd Street to 7th Street, NW 3rd Street from C Street, NW to D Street, SW Independence Avenue from Washington Avenue to 7th Street, SW 4th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to D Street, SW D Street from 3rd Street to 4th Street, SW 6th Street from Independence Avenue to Maryland Avenue, SW C Street from 2nd Street to 6th Street, SW Maryland Avenue from 3rd Street to Independence Avenue, SW MPD said that all street closures and listed times are subject to change. The department also encourages drivers to consider alternative routes since the closures may prompt traffic delays.
