ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A man was found guilty of attempted murder after shooting an East Rochester police officer.
52-year-old Raymond Noel was convicted Tuesday morning on the charges of attempted aggravated murder, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer or peace officer, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
On January 14, 2024, Officer Brad Steve was one of the officers who responded to an unknown call at a Garfield Street apartment. He saw Noel with an illegally possessed handgun.
As officers tried to de-escalate the situation, Noel pointed the gun at Officer Steve, who then fired at Noel. Noel fired multiple shots, one of which hit Officer Steve in the chest. He was protected by his vest.
Noel now faces a maximum of 40 years to life in prison. He will be sentenced on January 15, 2025.
