ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) - Enfield police intercepted a scheme after a woman sent $15,000 in cash to a con artist who claimed she was money laundering. The victim was accused of money laundering by someone who said they were from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The con artist told the victim that her accounts had been "flagged" and she needed to send approximately $15,000 in cash or Bitcoin. VIDEO: Enfield police capture suspect in woods She sent the money but within a few hours, she contacted the police, realizing it was possibly a scheme. The Enfield police were able to intercept the package that was already on a plane with the help of UPS and return the money to the victim. Police are reminding residents that law enforcement government agencies will never ask for Bitcoin, gift cards or to send cash through the mail. If you receive a call or email like this, report it to your local police department.
