GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Wildfires across Massachusetts that burned 4,000 acres since October have been contained completely, except in Great Barrington. Two dogs die in Easthampton kitchen fire after accidentally turning on stove The rain conditions last week have helped crews in the fight against 13 wildfires, according to a report issued by the Massachusetts DCR Bureau of Forest Fire Control and Forestry on Tuesday. There is new information from crews fighting the Butternut fire, it’s now spread over nearly 1,700 acres and is 40 percent contained. The Great Barrington Fire Department said the fire is controlled and is collecting data on Tuesday for a more accurate measurement. Crews have been sent to some flare-ups but still no immediate danger to property, and no evacuation orders. The area still smells of smoke however, the Department of Public Health is monitoring the air quality. Butternut: Great Barrington: 1,670 acres at 40% containment. Increase in acreage as crews begin to get more detailed mapping in some of the more rugged and difficult access areas. The fire continues to smolder along some portions of the perimeter where crews will continue patrolling and mopping up to secure the line. Thomas Road: North Andover, Boxford State Forest. 517 Acres at 100% contained. Smoldering areas interior. LAST REPORT pending any significant activity. Houghtons Path: Milton, 41 acres 100% containment. Weakened trees and snags in the burned area. Scattered large fuels continue to smolder well interior. LAST REPORT pending any significant activity. Mt. Gilead: Lynn, MA. Lynn Woods Reservation. Currently at 440 Acres, 100% contained. Patrolled with no heat detected on the perimeter. LAST REPORT pending any significant activity. Old Forest Road: North Andover, MA. Located in Boxford State Forest. 134 acres and 100% containment. LAST REPORT Cain Hill Fire: 140 acres and 100% containment. Continue to patrol and monitor. LAST REPORT Middleton Pond: Middleton and North Reading, MA. 242 acres and 100% containment. Continued patrol of perimeter. LAST REPORT Castle Rock: Saugus, MA., Breakheart State Reservation. 24 acres and 100% contained. DCR will monitor. LAST REPORT FD05111: Georgetown, MA.
