ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — A 59-year-old Massachusetts man faced a judge on Monday for allegedly making threats toward a synagogue in Attleboro earlier this year.
John Reardon, of Millis, pleaded guilty to charges of obstruction of free exercise of religious beliefs by threat of force, transmitting in interstate commerce a threat to injure a person, and stalking using a facility of interstate commerce.
On Jan. 25, police said the Agudas Achim Synagogue on North Main Street got a voicemail message that included “threats referring to genocide, bombing places of worship, and the killing of children.”
Ten minutes later, Reardon called another local Synagogue in Sharon, Massachusetts, and left a voicemail that also included threats of violence.
Investigators identified Reardon as the suspect then tracked him down to Wrentham, where he was taken into custody.
After he was arrested, officials say they leared he called the Israeli Consulate in Boston 98 times between Oct. 7, 2023, and Jan. 29. In those calls he also said things that were intended to harass or intimidate.
He faces up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
