La Salle Academy Press Release PROVIDENCE, RI (November 25, 2024) – After nearly twenty-five years of leading the La Salle Academy Football program, Coach Geoff Marcone announced today that he would be stepping down as head coach of the team. Given all that Coach Marcone has meant to his players and the impact that he has had on their lives, La Salle Academy’s Administration has reluctantly accepted this decision. Marcone’s coaching legacy caps a quarter century of legendary success on the gridiron. Coach Marcone has led the vaunted Maroon Juggernaut to three RIIL state titles in the highest division in Rhode Island (2008, 2017 and 2022). Coach Marcone is one of only three coaches (Jack Cronin, Tim Coen) to lead the Rams to state championship titles in the over 115 years of interscholastic league competition for the program. La Salle Principal Tim Welsh ‘93 said upon accepting Coach Marcone’s resignation, “When Coach Marcone applied for the head coaching position he stated that his hope was to: ‘Have a positive impact on all players not just on the field but in their daily lives and help them learn skills that will serve them well in life long after their football careers are over.’  To say that Coach Marcone has done this is a complete understatement. His impact on players has been profound and his leadership will be hard to replace.” Coach Marcone will coach his last game this Thursday in the annual Thanksgiving Game vs. East Providence. After the holiday, La Salle Academy will begin the task of selecting Coach Marcone’s replacement. La Salle Academy will conduct an extensive search for the new Head Coach of the Football program. The Search Committee will be co-chaired by Steve Lepre ‘67 and Tom Glavin ‘70. Athletic Director Vin McGinn ‘97 said, ““There are few coaches who have led teams throughout the long history of La Salle with more integrity and honor than Geoff. His contribution to the long story of Maroon and White athletics is difficult to put into words. He will be sorely missed.” Geoff will remain at La Salle Academy teaching and continuing in his role as Chair of the Physical Education Department.
