JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- Officials with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office will have extra patrols after multiple incidents of individuals throwing objects from an overpass onto I-65.
According to a news release from the office, deputies responded to a report of individuals throwing objects from the overpass at County Roads 250 S and 600 E onto I-65 at around 6:45 p.m. on Monday. The release said dispatch received several 911 calls, including a tractor-trailer driver who reported vehicle damage from the items being thrown.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they did not locate anyone in the area, but "discovered significant evidence of activity," including more than 100 baseballs and softballs scattered along the interstate, as well as a damaged baseball on the overpass.

“This reckless and dangerous behavior has now occurred twice in just a few days, endangering the lives of motorists and causing property damage," Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said in the release. "We are committed to identifying those responsible and ensuring that these acts do not continue.”
The release said that the office has requested extra patrols in the area to "deter further incidents." The case continues to be under investigation. If individuals have any information, they are asked to contact the office at (317) 346-4652 or (317) 346-4767.
