NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — This Saturday marks Small Business Saturday , a day dedicated to celebrating and supporting locally owned businesses that drive Rhode Island’s economy.
Some state leaders are urging residents to shop small to make a big impact this holiday season.
Small businesses account for a majority of the state’s workforce.
As small business Saturday approaches, leaders are highlighting the critical role these shops play in creating jobs and building stronger communities.
“Rhode Island is a small business community. Our whole workforce is small business working men and women. This is about jobs, this is about community, this is about progress. So this Saturday is a wonderful occasion to celebrate small businesses,” said Senator Jack during a tour of local shops in North Kingstown.
Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos also spoke about the importance of keeping local traditions alive by supporting small businesses.
“Let’s make sure that we all come out to shop. And think about what it would have been if some of the employees from Benny’s could have purchased Benny’s, maybe we could’ve saved some of those stores,” she said.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, for every dollar spent at a small business, 67 cents stay within the local community, creating a ripple effect that benefits everyone.
