"Thanksgiving should be a time for families to gather, connect and give thanks," said Stacey D. Steward, MADD CEO. MADD urges the public to plan a safe way to get back home if you will be drinking this week. You can help protect not only your loved ones but everyone on the road from imparied driving. Whether it's designating a sober driver, using a rideshare or opting for public transportation, making the safe choice has never been easier and it will save lives. Stacey D. Stewart, Mothers Against Drunk Driving CEO Officials said hosts can also play a crucial role in helping get everyone home safely by either helping them plan a way home or by offering their guests a place to stay. If you or a loved one needs a reminder to drive safely this season, pick up a red ribbon to participate in MADD's Tie One On for Safety holiday campaign. Ribbons can be picked up at Hele Gas Stations and should be worn "as a commitment and reminder to make a plan to avoid drinking and driving." As a result of this lifesaving law, more than 10,000 lives will be saved each year and hundreds of thousands of injuries will be prevented, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. “A future free of impaired driving crashes is near, and it’s rooted in technology that will stop impaired drivers before they even hit the road,” Stewart added. “This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for the strides made toward safer roads and the opportunity for families to enjoy the holidays without fear of being killed or injured by an impaired driver.”
