MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man was sentenced to 65 years in jail for brutally murdering his girlfriend back in 2022, but he is now requesting a motion for a new trial, according to online court information. On Monday, 38-year-old Michael Lurry was sentenced to jail for first-degree murder, theft of property $60,000-$250,000, criminal attempt carjacking, and criminal attempt theft of property $2,500-$10,000. In August, a jury convicted Lurry of first-degree murder after testimonies from 16 witnesses and DNA evidence provided by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Michael Lurry (SCSO) Prosecutors say Lurry deliberately ran his girlfriend over with her car, causing fatal injuries. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Toneshia Hardeman. Hardeman died the same day as the incident. When that plan failed, he stole a delivery driver's semi-truck. Before the murder trial, Lurry pleaded guilty to the truck theft. According to the Shelby County Criminal Justice System Portal, he will appear back in court on December 18 after a motion was requested seeking a new trial.
