SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) -- A state review board next month will consider defeated Pee Dee senator Gerald Malloy's request for a new election.
The election commission's Board of Canvassers is set to meet at 10 a.m. on Dec. 3 in Columbia. Malloy, a Hartsville Democrat who's served Senate District 29 since 2002, finished 278 votes behind Republican J.D. Chaplin.

A mandatory recount trimmed Chaplin's margin to just 87, according to a Nov. 19 protest lodged with the state Election Commission naming the boards of elections in Chesterfield, Darlington, Lee, Marlboro and Sumter counties as defendants.
Malloy and his team are asking the state Election Commission to schedule a new contest. The Senate meets Dec. 4 for reorganization and Chaplin’s name already appears on its website as the District 29 seat holder.
