Survey shows support for pot legalization in Indiana
Nov 25, 2024
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WANE) An organization pushing for the reform of Indiana's marijuana laws released results of a survey Monday that shows strong support for the legalization of pot in the state.
Safe & Regulated Indiana hired Causeway Solutions to conduct the survey which included responses from 1,252 registered voters in Indiana between October 30th and November 3rd. It has a margin of error of +/- 2.8 percent.
The survey results show that 70% of voters in Indiana support marijuana legalization for adults over the age of 21, with 49% strongly supporting it. Fifty-eight percent of voters said they would be more likely to support their state legislator if they voted for marijuana legalization, with 39% being much more likely to support their state legislator. Twenty-seven percent totally oppose legalization.
Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky have all legalized marijuana for medical or recreational use.
Indiana Governor-elect Mike Braun, who will take over from outgoing Governor Eric Holcomb in 2025, as governor in 2025, said in an October debate that he might be up for legalizing medical marijuana, but as for recreational marijuana, he would take into consideration input from law enforcement agencies.
Efforts to advance bills reforming marijuana laws in the General Assembly have all failed.
