The University of Hawaii women's basketball team pulled away from Eastern Washington 67-55 to win the Bank of Hawaii Classic on Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawaii exited the weekend 3-1 overall and 2-0 in tournament play. Saint Mary's also went 2-0 in the tournament but did not play against UH. The Rainbow Wahine won the tournament over the Gaels due to the points scored tiebreaker. Hawaii scored 136 points, while Saint Mary's scored 127. All the latest sports news from Hawaii's sports station MeiLani McBee scored a team-high 12 points for the Rainbow Wahine, hitting four of her seven 3-point attempts, moving into a tie with Megan Tinnin for second most 3s in program history (167). Imani Perez added 11 points with three rebounds, while Lily Wahinekapu was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists. Freshman Ritorya Tamilo added eight points and also made the All-Tournament team. For Eastern Washington, Peyton Howard had a game-high 14 points. Hawaii will next host the American Savings Bank Rainbow Wahine Showdown, which also features Fresno State, UT Martin and No. 5 UCLA, which defeated defending national champion and current No. 1 South Carolina 77-62 on Sunday. UH begins with Fresno State on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
