CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) – Two women were killed and several children hurt after a car went off the road and crashed into a tree in Johnston County on Saturday evening.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at around 7:05 p.m. on Government Road and Jack Road near Clayton.
State troopers told CBS 17 that a woman driving a Jeep Cherokee failed to stop at a stop sign while driving on Jack Road, which led to the SUV running off the road, hitting a ditch before going airborne and smashing into a tree.
The driver, Emely Rosario Diaz, 24, of Clayton died at the scene, while passenger Sade Nadia Tominson, 23, of Knightdale died later at the hospital, the highway patrol said.

Six girls were also inside the SUV at the time of the crash. All of them were taken to WakeMed hospitals in Raleigh and Cary, with the oldest -- age 8 -- listed in critical condition, state troopers said.
On Sunday, the other girls were stable, according to troopers. One girl is 7 years old, and the other four are two sets of twins, all under the age of three, according to troopers.
NCSHP officials said that neither of the women were wearing seatbelts, and none of the children were strapped properly.
Speed is a factor in the crash, but it hasn’t been determined yet whether alcohol was involved, officials said.
NCSHP state troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
