Warmup ahead of Thanksgiving followed by cooler air and rain chances
Nov 23, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A warming trend will take hold across the area starting Sunday as southerly winds bring warmer air and higher humidity from the Gulf.
Highs will climb to the mid-70s Sunday and Monday, with overnight lows rising into the low 60s by Monday night. Temperatures will be as much as 15 degrees above average early in the week, with a mild start to Thanksgiving travel.
Monday night, a weak cold front will arrive, bringing a small chance of showers late into Tuesday morning. The front will stall and fade, leading to a brief cooldown with highs near average in the low 70s Tuesday. Expect dry and pleasant conditions for most of Wednesday, with temperatures rebounding to the mid-70s.
Thanksgiving will bring another round of unsettled weather. A stronger cold front is expected Thursday evening, with showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. Rainfall should clear out quickly after the front passes, and no severe weather is expected. Highs will stay warm in the upper 70s before cooler air moves in Thursday night.
By Friday, drier and cooler air will dominate, with highs in the lower 60s and crisp overnight lows in the 40s. Perfect weather is in store for post-Thanksgiving plans.
