KINGSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A teacher for the University of Rhode Island who passed away from her injuries after an accident on campus will be laid to rest today.
On November 6, McDermott was hit by a car at URI’s Kingston campus.
It happened in the early evening near the intersection of Lower College Road and Campus Avenue.
McDermott worked at the school for 43 years, working as the Director of Student Involvement and the Memorial Union.
According to her obituary, she’s survived by her husband of 41 years, her 3 sons, and her granddaughter.
Her funeral is set to take place this morning in Jamestown.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks for donations to Rhody Outpost, which is URI’s basic needs pantry for students facing food insecurity.
The college is providing resources and services for students on campus.
