NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans City Council has voted to officially ban the public release of Mylar balloons in the city. The vote was made at a council meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21. These New Orleans restaurants are open on Thanksgiving in 2024 Mylar balloons have previously caused power outages across the city after hitting electrical lines. In August, a Mylar balloon cut power at a Carrollton water plant, leading to a boil water advisory for the entire East Bank of New Orleans and Algiers Point.
