New Orleans City Council votes to ban release of Mylar balloons

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans City Council has voted to officially ban the public release of Mylar balloons in the city.
The vote was made at a council meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21.

Mylar balloons have previously caused power outages across the city after hitting electrical lines.
In August, a Mylar balloon cut power at a Carrollton water plant, leading to a boil water advisory for the entire East Bank of New Orleans and Algiers Point.
