Kern County organizations ready to feed families in need for Thanksgiving
Nov 21, 2024
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Turkeys here and there, the holiday season is closer than ever with Thanksgiving around the corner.
Local organizations are heating up their ovens to deliver meals to those who need them most, and Victory Outreach kicked off the season early with a Turkey Giveaway on Wednesday night.
"Whether it's a turkey or a bag of food, and you know what, we've been doing this for 10 years now and we love doing this," said Pastor Armando Aceves, with Victory Outreach. "Seeing people leave grateful, saying 'you know what? Thank you, because, I wasn't able to buy a turkey this year because of my finances, but you guys helped us out'."
CaliDental is giving smiles not only to their patients, but too people in need too. The dental office donated 200 turkeys to The Mission on Thursday morning.
"I really want them to…just as I will be having, I'll be in a warm place having a warm meal," said Maricela Orozco with CaliDental. "I want everyone to have that part of us."
This donation will help out families beyond the holiday.
"For our thanksgiving meal we need about 50 and 60, but as I mentioned, this can keep going on for several more months," said Carlos Baldovinos, Executive Director of The Mission. "We serve about 250,000 meals per year. Our meal counts have gone up about 20% to 30% from last year to this year."
